Here's what I love about Cipher: they are made up of some of the area's most talented musicians; they music is hard but gorgeous; the vocals are amazing; some of them look really good with their shirts off; and their live show will leave an impression on you on so many levels. Here's what I hate about Cipher: They keep playing shows on weeknights when I can't go see them, and they don't have an album, demo, single, or anything! saw cipher for the first time at the grape st pub...they opened their set with a white noise instrumental section led by guru guitarist steve on the theramin, quickly exploding into a hard driving pulsating rhythmic extravaganza! im not a big fan of hard rock, but these guys tore it up and blew me away!! get off your asses and see these guys at your local watering hole before its too late!!!! - danny , posted 11/09/04 |

Yeah, I know,"hot" doesn't really cut it as far as bands go...but this band is actually really good as well. I found myself humming their tunes as I left the bar where I saw them a few weeks ago...at first, I thought of them as just another HOT rock band, but they are actually super talented. These guys are way better then I expected...much better then the bands they opened for when I saw them at Nothstar. I wouldn't mind getting one of their cd's..it's a shame none seem to exist. Cipher opened up for my roommate's band,and I wasn't expecting much, based on the fact I had never heard of them. I was totally impressed by their performance, and almost had to drag my girlfriend away from the stage..in fear she would ditch me for the night, in order to hang out with the band. She loved them, and (as much as I hate to admit it) so did I. I asked for a demo cd, and they claimed they had none, but if anyone knows how to get access to one, let me know. I would definately go to see them play out for a future show, as long as my girl lays off the liquor and pays more attention to me then them. I only caught one of these guys' shows, but it was f-ing awesome. I intend to go to many more of their shows, as long as they continue playing in the Philly area. A friend of mine gave me these guys' demo cd, and I fell in love. Their lyrics are bittersweet, the lead singer's voice melts my soul, and they are all- in-all incredible musicians. I can' t wait to be their biggest groupie when thay make it big. They have renewed my faith in the Philly music scene by being a refreshing, awesome change from the norm! These guys are the best band I've ever heard at Whiskey Tango, and I've been going there forever. They have an amazingly unique style of music, and it doesn't hurt that they're wicked hot..(I've got my eye on the dark-haired guitar player, so hopefully he reads this...) These guys are WAY better then most of the shit you hear on the radio these days. I actually got to catch their first show at the Northstar and was blown away.
