Apologies to El Vez, the singer
Take this quiz first: Do you like Chi-Chi?s but think it is too subtle and not expensive enough? Are you a slave to fashion and the latest ?in? places? If so, you will love El Vez. Like other offerings from the Starr Organization, El Vez is high on concept (and sodium), but low on personality and taste. The fresh-made guacamole bowl ($12) was very good, but had me thinking that I could make twice as much (and just as good) for half the price at home. The fish tacos were one of the lone highlights of a losing effort. The staff was typical of a Starr restaurant - good looking, but more interested in turning your table than making you feel welcomed. Would I go to El Vez again? Only if you are paying and we get an outside table. Otherwise, you will find me enjoying authentic Mexican at Tequilla?s.
