Over Rated Mexican
Stephen Starr's restaurants are usually known more for their appearance than the food. In this aspect, El Vez does not disappoint. The ambiance is great but the food could use some help. Great place to get drinks but go eat somewhere else. The other Starr restraurants have better food. - Troy , posted 10/04/05

The Other El Vez
I prefer El Vez, the Elvis imitator, who's much more fun than a pseudo Mexican restaurant any day. - David , posted 07/19/05

to expensive
Another stephen starr trend fest. I love the decor and the nachos were good but way to expensive. I don't want to spend $25 on my mexican food. But I guess it's cool to be seen there. - Sofia , posted 05/17/05

GREAT DECOR
DECOR IS COOL AND FUN! KIDS WOULD LIKE THE GUACAMOLE AND THE ICE CREAM. THE STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND ACCOMODATING. WE DINED IN THE AFTERNOON. - CATHERINE , posted 05/17/05

Great Party
Had dinner, then hung out at the bar. Everything was excellent. Margarita is my new favorite drink. Definitely coming back. - Karl , posted 05/13/05

Apologies to El Vez, the singer
Take this quiz first: Do you like Chi-Chi?s but think it is too subtle and not expensive enough? Are you a slave to fashion and the latest ?in? places? If so, you will love El Vez. Like other offerings from the Starr Organization, El Vez is high on concept (and sodium), but low on personality and taste. The fresh-made guacamole bowl ($12) was very good, but had me thinking that I could make twice as much (and just as good) for half the price at home. The fish tacos were one of the lone highlights of a losing effort. The staff was typical of a Starr restaurant - good looking, but more interested in turning your table than making you feel welcomed. Would I go to El Vez again? Only if you are paying and we get an outside table. Otherwise, you will find me enjoying authentic Mexican at Tequilla?s. - Sean , posted 05/10/05

Not worth it
If you like dining on salty, overpriced food, in the middle of a disco, El Vez is the place for you. It's expensive, loud, salty, and packed w/ what seems like tables and tables of bachelorette parties. Service is unfriendly - but I would be too if I had to work all night in that place. - Jozette , posted 05/10/05

Pricey and Popular
El Vez has a great atmosophere, and they make a nice margarita. The food is good too. My only complaints are that it's really crowded (good idea to get a reservation) and expensive (bring you're credit card). - Firebunny , posted 04/21/05

Nice place, too expensive
The ambiance is very chic. The rotating low rider bike in the middle of the circular bar is a great touch. And don't forget to stop in the photo booth and snap off a couple of pictures of you and your squeeze. But after that...ehhh. $6.00-$8.00 for a margerita that's pretty good? No thanks. This isn't NYC! - SMAC , posted 04/21/05

Shameful
El Vez has a scene right now because it's new. But that will vanish as soon as enough people have seen the cleverly designed bathroom, then walked out on the food and service. There are better places to be seen, better restaurant bathrooms, and better places to eat on that very block. If you're one of those people that has to try everything, hurry up. It won't be there much longer. - Jordan , posted 03/28/05

Great Dressed Up Mexican
If you like your mexican food with a little pizzaz and enjoy a good marguerita and festive atmoshpere this is the place for you.

It can be a little expensive and the service isn't always that fastest--but hey, you're there for the scene. - Darian , posted 03/24/05
