was good, but recently jumped the shark--lost two regulars due to rude staff
I was a regular last-dropper until recently. I don't drink coffee and their tea gives me severe stomach-aches, but I went there at least 3x per week to partake in the cake and the pleasant atmosphere while getting some work done on my laptop with the free wi-fi. Well, I thought it was free anyway. A guy who I've seen working there before kicked me and my girlfried out for not buying anything within the first 30 minutes of us walking through the door, despite the fact that the first words out of our mouths before we even sat down were "hey, you want to split some carrot cake" and we even had our cake-money pulled out and sitting on the table next to our laptops the whole time! And it was a slow day; there were all of about 5 other people in there at the time. But the coffee-dude's shrewd business-sense came to the rescue when he spotted my girlfriend bringing in an outside beverage--contraband! He will single-handedly save the business by forever getting rid of riff-raff like the two of us. How dare I come there 3x per week and spend money on cake! Jeez, coffee-dude, I thought the business model of the LD was come in, sit down, surf, chat, stay a few hours and buy several things along the way. And the more the merrier--people sitting in there with their laptops open are free window advertising to passers-by. - Brandon , posted 08/23/06

I'm torn...
The LD has an overly hip clientele impressed with its own coolness and a staff sometimes afflicted with such a degree of ennui that I've seen veer into sheer nastiness.

But The LD is by far the best place to sit for a quick cup or for hours, nursing a no-nonsense mug, reading, zoning out and/or grading papers. Their coffee is good, their bagels are always fresh and they have the best damn biscotti in the city....the over-pierced, dumpster-diving-for clothes, art school students be damned. They've been slacking in the cleanliness department lately though. Come on guys: take care of your fixin's counter, wouldja?

Plus they have the coolest bathrooms in the city. - Unsubscribed , posted 06/24/05

Nice place to hang out
The coffee is decent; good return for the low cost. Try the chai lattes if you're into those - very good. The counter help isn't always the friendliest, but no one bothers you if you'd like to spend a few hours studying over a cup or two of caffeine. - Amy , posted 05/10/05

go for the mood, not for the coffee
Sorry, I'm a coffee snob. I love the last drop's hipster staff, the music they play, the mingling art school kids, the late night hours, the outdoor tables, and probably a few other things. The only problem is that they just don't really have good coffee. Yes, they do use La Colombe in their espresso drinks. No, they don't use it for the only drink that counts: regular thick strong black coffee. - Erik , posted 04/22/05

Fun, in a collegy way.
It's artsy. It's hip. It's fun. People pretending to draw and think and be intellectual. But somehow, I always enjoy myself here. If for nothing less than people-watching. - Elisabethie , posted 10/08/04
