in a perfect world...
every lunch for the rest of my life would be a soy chicken salad pita from the basic 4 vegetarian bar at the reading terminal market. - angie , posted 03/30/06

One of my favorite places in Philly
Reading Terminal Market is one of those places most missed by this Philly expat. When I come out to visit my mom in New Jersey, I try to get in a visit to pick up fresh meat, cheeses, pasta, produce, coffee (Old City coffee kicks ass!) and shoo-fly pie to fix up an awsome dinner.

Damn, I miss this place.. - , posted 02/21/06

Prefer Profi's
The market can take you from holland to china, but, in my opinion no establishment is more enjoyable than Profi's Creperie. C'est magnifique!! Healthy, Fresh, Hot, Natural. Simple ingedients come together, however you want them, to make GREAT tastes. - StarSon , posted 02/07/06

great produce and meats, wish they were open later
Love reading terminal! I do all my produce and meat shopping here. There is also a nice variety of places to eat when you are in a group and everyone can't decide what to get. They close at 6 and I wish they were open later, I'd like to stop by on my way home from work. - Sofia , posted 05/17/05

A place for tourists where the locals go, too!
Reading Terminal Market is one of those places that is a "must see" for tourists, but also a place where us "real locals" shop, too. Definitely try the meats from Martin's. The selection of produce at Iovine's is amazing - a friend from out of town stopped dead in front of the potatoes (8 varieties, 4 colors) and just said, "Wow!". John Yee seafood is the only place to get really fresh clams for steaming. And have lunch while you're there! The Sandwich Stand makes great hoagies and cheesesteaks! For a snack, try an ice cream cone at Bassets! - Liz , posted 05/15/05

a food flea market
Good if you know what you're there for, overwhelming and irritating if you aren't sure. lots of not too friendly venders. the parking situation is shameful, the "discount" you get for shopping there isn't significant. - Gurly , posted 05/11/05

Go early, but go
Avoid the tourists -- get there well before noon and shop with the locals who know better. If you're with guests, have breakfast at an Amish diner and then spend the rest of the time just wandering. If you're local, get the lay of the land so next time you can head right to your favorite shops. You just can't beat the selection, prices and knowledge of the merchants.

Best: Mac&cheese at Delilahs (make an angioplasty appointment first), cheese at either Salumeria or Downtown, produce at Iovine's (lines are long but they are quick), Italian cookies at Termini, bread at Metropolitan or Le Bus (though they both run out early), sausages at Ochs...see how addicting this place is? ; ) - Unsubscribed , posted 06/27/05

A must for out of town guests
The Reading Market terminal is a great place to take out of towners. There is so much to see and experience. I personally love the cookies from the 4th street bakery there. The diner is good and the Amish cooking is divine. - Jennifer , posted 05/10/05

Crazy mix of different things
Giving a rating to the whole market is like trying to rate all the movies at a theater. Some are good, some are bad, some are great. The overall experience is awesome. You can buy gourmet cheeses, fresh breads, killer sandwhiches, falafels, bbq, etc. The terminal market is a must-see in the city. - Ben , posted 04/27/05

markets, restaurants, shopping
Reading terminal market has a little bit of everything there. If you want to pick up groceries there are fresh fruits and vegetable, butchers. They also fresh cheeses, baked goods at the amish stands in the back corner. Or if you dont want to pick up ingredients and just eat there is a great selection of restaurants as well. You can find mexican, middle eastern, italian, hoagies, cheesesteaks, almost everything you can think of. They have coffee shops, even a tea shop and a fruit smoothie bar. Then dont forget dessert with chocolate shops, bakery's and the amish stand has delicious ice cream and milk shakes. Plan to get lost the first several times you go because everywhere you turn you see something you want to check out and its easy to forget where you were going. - Unsubscribed , posted 10/08/04

The best weekend place to hang out and eat!
reading terminal market
by megna prasad, temple

The faintest canter of horses is audible above the din that hangs over the Reading Terminal Market. It?s been decades since the last horse-drawn wagon rode past the Market, leaving in its wake the sounds and smells of a bustling bazaar. But a sepia-toned picture on the wall and an old-fashioned bonhomie in the air still speak of a market that has survived for over a century.
Step into the market and you know you?ve reached a different place ? a buzzing and exciting gastronomic bazaar with no cultural boundaries. From delectable chocolates - `Chocolates by Mueller? is highly recommended - to lasagna and Lancaster County Farm fresh produce, exotic bread and baked produce, fresh sea food and pad-thai noodles, one could trace an atlas linking the diverse stalls. - emily , posted 07/19/04
