Burmese in China Town
Rangoon is another one of the great ethnic restaurants located in Philly. Located on the edge of China Town where everyone should go to experience the distinctly Asian culture in an American city. Rangoon is burmese food, which is a sort of cross between Asian and Indian. The place is always crowded, a testament to the quality of the food. They serve alcohol, including some cheap bottles of wine. Rangoon is always a fun adventure for friends and family when we are in the mood for something different. - d , posted 05/17/05

Burmese in Chinatown
Lunch here is amazing. Soup or Salad with great sesame dressing, plus a main dish (vegetarian or meat) for about $5. The Basil Tofu is delicious. - Lois , posted 05/17/05

Great food, great service
Rangoon, located on 9th Street just north of Arch in Chinatown, is hands down my favorite restaurant in Philly.

Burmese food is an interesting mix of east asian and south asian foods, with south asian curries mixed with the veggies, tofu and noodles more common in east asian dining. I have never had a dish at Rangoon that I didn't absolutely love. They have a good mix of spicy and mild, lots of meat varieties and plenty of vegetarian choices.

The absolute must-order dish is the thousand layer bread with tomato curry dip as an appetizer. My boyfriend once brought me that for a snack and four dozen roses - I was much more excited about the food!

The restaurant doesn't look like much - the decor is pretty no frills, but what it lacks in ambiance it more than makes up for in quality of food and service. - Megan , posted 05/16/05

Great Food, Great Price
The title says it all. The menu is excellent w/ lots to choose from! I've eaten there a few times and have had a great meal each time. My fiance and I always order an appetizer (sometimes 2), 2 meals and 2 drinks (wine or beer) and the bill is always under $40. It's the best deal in the city, and the food is absolutely delicious! - Jozette , posted 05/10/05

Burmese food- pretty good
I was always interested in trying Burmese food but for some reason I thought they wouldn't have vegan options. Finally I went to check it out and they do have lots of vegetarian and vegan options! So it's pretty good food. I like to support this place. It's in the Chinatown area, so parking is tricky. - Melanie , posted 04/22/05

my new favorite
Why is it that I had to live in Philly four years before my friends brought me to Rangoon? Hopefully this little review will eliminate that lag-time for some new Philadelphian. The service is very friendly, but the food is the attraction. The vegetarian selections are amazing. The names are escaping me right now. Tofu Treasure? Yes. Mango Something Something? Go for it. Jungle Tofu. Absolutely. - Erik , posted 04/20/05

wonderful food!
I love Rangoon! For those of you not familiar with Burmese cuisine, it influenced by Indian and French cuisines, producing such amazing dishes as ginger salad and thousand layer bread with potato dip. The service is excellent and friendly - and the food makes me want to come back for more. I recommend making a dinner of the various salads on their menu. Your mouth will thank you! - hannah , posted 10/08/04
