Comprehensive volume for information on teonanacatl
The complete title of the book is: "Teonanacatl: Hallucinogenic mushrooms of North America : extracts from the Second International Conference on Hallucinogenic Mushrooms, held October 27-30, ... (Psycho-mycological studies ; no. 2)"

As indicated in my title, this book is a great read for those interested in mushrooms for any reason and any background. It begins with an introduction by Jonathan Ott outlining the general history and origins of the mushrooms. The rest is a compilation of articles and writings by people who played key roles in mushroom discovery and study, such as Dr. Wasson and Albert Hofmann. These different perspectives allow for a view on the topic from all angles, and are of value for both the casual reader, the chemist, the mycologist, the anthropologist, etc. It really covers all fronts, even colored pictures, scientific drawings, and chemical diagrams. As said before, there are sections on history, experience, chemical fabrication, cultivation, and overall identification information and specific information regarding each known species.

I found this book to be particularly intriguing on an anthropological level, as it touches upon some pertinent aspects of our modern culture and its loss of values. Even though it was published nearly thirty years ago, much of the content is still very relevant.

I definitely believe this to be an indispensable addition to any collection of books. It is out of print and although not very difficult to find (check amazon), it is rare. - dasha , posted 09/20/07
