I went there recently
When I got separated from my party I tried walking past the hostess to catch up ... She yelled, "Sirr ... please wait."

I have never been yelled at in a restaurant. - Dino , posted 12/21/06

Surely you jest...
Arrogant and self righeous wait staff followed by an overpriced and underportioned meal.

Don't mind paying for good food, but the fare and the atmosphere are sorely lacking. - A. , posted 04/25/06

Artisan Food
I'd go here anytime. White Dog has a creative menu that changes often. You are served by students from nearby Ivy school Penn. The chefs know their stuff and the atmosphere is cozy. - Scarlett , posted 04/23/06

Annoyingly politcally correct
Overpriced and decent (but not great food) and who cares about their social activism--I visit to eat, not to curry favor with an amateurish waitstaff with naive and half-baked political idealism. Tons of restaurants nearby with better value and service - Lee , posted 11/26/05

Good food, great causes
The social activism and awareness portrayed by the staff and management is inspiring to say the least. A very fun place. - Greg , posted 10/31/05

my best date ever
I moved to the area not too long ago & last night I was set up on this blind date. this place had really good food. My date was so beautiful & I think she's the one. The food was as gorgeous as her. I'm going to take call her & ask her out there again. Excellent. - George , posted 10/25/05

one of my favorites!
this is one of the best dining experiences in the city. while some say it's pricey, it all depends on how much you value local, farm-fresh ingredients in creative and tasty dishes from a restaurant that has a better social and community conscience than most people (including me!). supporting this restaurant is also supporting the farmers in the area as well as your happy tummy! :) - amelia , posted 09/10/05

Reminded me of California!
Though a little bit pricey, this cuisine reminded me of the fresh plates served in restaurants in California. Roasted eggplant, mozzarella and heirloom tomatos with basil aeoli... yum! I hope there's more of this out in Philly! - Miss Akay , posted 08/29/05

Eat at the bar
The dinner menu is pricey, but very good, so sit at the bar where you can eat great food for cheaper! Also their brunch is out of this world, and all the food comes from local farmers! Support your local farmers and eat here next time the parents are in town! - Summer , posted 05/16/05

a little pricey, but great food and better causes
I love this place for what they stand for - supporting local farmers, fair trade and oganic agriculture, being politically active and engaged community members. That being said - the prices are a little high and though I enjoy the food, the selection is somewhat high-brow for my tastes. Sunday brunch is great. I recommend sitting outside on a warm day and ordering from the bar menu. - Megan , posted 05/16/05

Creativity abound
Year after year, the menu delights with unusual dishes and pairings. If you want standard faire, you should look elsewhere. There is a uniqueness to the food that is not so much strange as unexpected, but may challenge your uncle Ernie who always orders veal parm no matter where he goes. Charming and inviting, the White Dog is quaintly nestled in University City. And as you settle in, eavesdropping on the city's finest thinkers, you can ask your date, "is that insightful or just plain pretentious?" - Wilhelm , posted 05/11/05

Great fresh ingredients makes this place superb!
Try the Amish Cheddar sandwich on sourdough bread. It's fantastic. White Dog has a good philosophy by supporting the local farms and providing it's customers with fresh and delicious ingredients. - stump , posted 05/06/05

It's Aiight
The food is good but a bit pricey. But their socially concious so that's cool. But there's this kinda elitist attitude in the air. So if you're rich, this is the place for you. - Nuclear J , posted 04/24/05

Pointers/Setters
The title refers to the names of the bathrooms (there's another set called Democrats/Republicans).

In addition to the most creative toilets in town, the White Dog features organic and vegetarian selections and plenty of seating, all for an immoderate price. - Patrick , posted 10/19/04

The bathrooms are cool
The food is good. If you want something fancy you can sit in the restaurant, of if you want something more casual they have a good bar menu.

The bathrooms are kind of fun. - Carolyn , posted 10/11/04

Good food and atmosphere
I've always enjoyed the eclectic food and feel of White Dog. Even that part of Sansom Street is a joy to walk on. For those who look for organic or free range foods, this is the place. Sweet potato fries are yummy as are the burgers. 3420 Sansom St. University City. - liz , posted 10/09/04

White Dog Cafe
It's a nice little hot spot on Penn's campus. The food is pretty good and it has a piano parlor. You can't smoke at the bar though. - Pari , posted 10/07/04
